World Book Day
We organised a number of activities through which we could celebrate and acknowledge our children’s love for and enjoyment of reading.
One of these was by asking the children to decorate a potato in the style of a book character. A winner was then selected from each year group and then awarded a £5 book token in Friday’s Achievement Assembly.
Other activities that took place were:
• The children copied the front cover of their favourite book and then wrote four words to describe / review their book. These will then be displayed on a whole school display and by doing so showcasing and recommending quality books to the rest of the school.
• The children engaged in paired reading (children in each class paired up with another child in another year group and read and discussed their favourite book).
• Our Year 3 children attended a production of Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows at Westdale Infants School.
